flip flop fun

PrintI bought myself a pair of plain flip flops and got the idea to personalise them with, of course, some crochet flowers. With this quick and easy transformation I can now make myself a unique pair in every colour for this summer. This is how I made my first pair and it was fun!

I used Vinnis Colours Nikkim 100% Cotton DK (I am referring to the colours in general as it was leftovers and the labels long gone) and 3,25 crochet hook.

The pattern is written in American crochet terminology.

Abbreviations: beg = begin(ning), ch = chain stitch, dc = double crochet stitch, hdc = half double crochet stitch, sc = single crochet stitch, sp = space, ss = slip stitch.

Triangle (Crochet 2)

With green and 3,5 mm hook, crochet 2 ch.

Round 1: (1 sc, 3 ch) 3 times, 1 sc in 1st ch.

2015-11-23 10.59.07

Round 2: 1 ch, (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc) in every 3 ch-sp, ss in beg sc.

2015-11-23 11.02.19

Round 3: 1 ch, 1 sc in the same st, [1 sc in next hdc, (1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc) in next dc, 1 sc in next hdc, 1 sc in next 2 sc] 3 times, ending with ss in beg sc.

Round 4: 1 ch, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in every st and (1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc) in every 2 ch-sp, ss in beg sc.

2015-11-23 13.37.51

Round 5: 3 ch, 1 dc in every sc and (2 dc, 3 ch, 2 dc) in every 2 ch-sp, ss in top of 3 ch. Fasten off.

Round 6: join next colour in 3 ch-sp, [(1 sc, 4 ch, 1 sc) in 3 ch-sp, (2 ch, skip 1 dc, 1 sc in next dc) 6 times, 2 ch] 3 times, ss in beg sc.

2015-11-24 08.52.56

Round 7: 1 sc in 4 ch-sp, 4 ch, 1 sc in the same sp, (3 ch, 1 sc in next 2 ch-sp) 7 times, 3 ch, [(1 sc, 4 ch, 1 sc) in 4 ch-sp, (3 ch, 1 sc in next 2 ch-sp) 7 times, 3 ch] twice, ss in beg sc.

Darn away all loose ends.

Round 8: (this round is worked around the flip-flop’s straps): ss in the ch-sp, 2 sc around the one right strap where it forks, 2 sc around the left strap, continue with 3 sc in every 3 ch-sp around the strap, continue with 3 sc in 3 ch-sp at the bottom of the triangle then again 3 sc in every 3 ch-sp around the other strap, ss in beg sc. Fasten off.
